Four Tracks Between Hanau and Gelnhausen in the Future
Along the approximately 23-kilometer existing line between Hanau and Gelnhausen, Deutsche Bahn is constructing two additional tracks. This will enable the section to be continuously operated with four tracks in the future. The specialized civil engineering work shown in the video is being carried out by Bickhardt Bau SE, based in Kirchheim.
Along the future route, the non-load-bearing soil is first removed and transported to a specially designated temporary storage area in the immediate vicinity. There, the material is placed with a bulldozer for further processing.
On this construction site, the new Stehr binder spreader TBA 10 was deployed in intensive field testing. The binding agent was applied in precisely metered quantities according to technical specifications and subsequently homogeneously incorporated into the soil using a soil mixer. When required, the soil was additionally moistened beforehand.
After soil improvement, an excavator loads the stabilized material onto dump trucks, which transport it directly back to its original location on the route. There, the treated soil is reinstalled in layers and compacted. This process creates a permanently load-bearing subgrade—optimally prepared for further construction and laying of the track bed.
Stehr Binder Spreader TBA 10 – Filling and Weighing System
Stehr is the exclusive distribution partner for the binder spreader TBA 10 and additional models manufactured by the Irish producer SpreadTec. The TBA 10 was developed in close collaboration and with the technical expertise of Stehr and the British soil stabilization specialist Reeds Ltd. at the renowned Irish manufacturer of all types of binder spreaders, Agri-Spread/SpreadTec.
Filling with binding agent is performed directly from the silo vehicle or on-site silo container: using a compressed air compressor, the material is blown completely dust-free into the hopper, which has a loading volume of 10 m³. Once the maximum fill quantity is reached, an indicator light directly on the spreader signals this. Optionally, an additional display can be installed in the tractor cab that shows the driver the weight of the binding agent—determined via load cells on the spreader—in real time during loading or application.
Precise Metering via Cab Display
Via an additional control terminal in the tractor cab, the speed of the metering augers in the hopper can be precisely controlled. This ensures that the required application rate is consistently achieved and maintained. Optionally, a computer control system is available that automatically regulates the application rate based on travel speed and binding agent density. Also available as an option is a dust filtration system that enables dust-free blowing of the binding agent without additional auxiliary equipment.
