Excavator-Mounted Compactors
SBV 80 HF & 160 HF
The Stehr mounted compactors, featuring centrifugal forces of 80 and 160 kN at a frequency of 70 Hz, operate with the same gearboxes used in our wheel loader-mounted plate compactors. They are increasingly deployed in situations where working with conventional mounted compactors is impossible due to the enormous propagation of vibrations into the surrounding environment.

Stehr Innovations for Excavator Attachments
-
Hexagonal Base Plate:
With this design, complex rotary and oil feed-throughs can often be entirely eliminated. No additional hydraulic circuit is required on the excavator to drive the rotation motor. Continuous rotary drives with hydraulic feed-throughs are also available upon customer request. -
100% Vertical Forces:
The SBV 80 HF and 160 HF models featuring 70 Hz high-frequency technology are equipped with two and four counter-rotating exciter shafts, respectively. As a result, the excitation forces are directed 100% vertically into the soil. -
No Environmental Vibrations:
The design and positioning of the vibration dampers ensure that the enormous forces are not transferred to the carrier machine or the surrounding environment. -
Carrier Machines from 6 Tons:
Thanks to advanced Stehr technology, even these most powerful compactors can be easily mounted on smaller carrier machines starting from 6 tons.
Maximum Efficiency
At least 50% of the energy required by conventional compaction equipment is often lost to unnecessary vibrations propagating into the environment. In contrast, the most powerful Stehr compactor, the SBV 160 HF (160 kN centrifugal force at 70 Hz), requires a power output of just 20 kW! To achieve this, an oil flow of 60 liters at 200 bar is required. Stehr is the only manufacturer worldwide producing mounted compactors with such immense centrifugal force combined with such a high excitation frequency.

70 Hz High-Frequency Technology
Here, the state of the art has been redefined. As professionals know, compaction works by introducing vibrations into the soil, causing individual grains to oscillate. This allows them to shift into the voids between larger grains, creating a denser, more load-bearing layer.
This process is significantly enhanced by using Stehr plate compactors with their innovative technology. Through the patented 4-shaft technology operating at a vibration frequency of 70 Hz, the material to be compacted is excited at roughly twice the natural frequency of the target soil (max. 35 Hz).
The mathematical relationship between grain size (d) and its natural frequency (n) is d ~ 1/n². Higher excitation frequencies increasingly stimulate the smaller grains to vibrate, causing them to migrate into the free spaces between the larger grains. This dramatically increases the number of grain contacts and the resulting stiffness of the soil in a very short amount of time!
The natural frequency of soils typically ranges between 25 and 35 Hz and changes as compaction progresses. If these same (low) frequencies are introduced into the soil, predominantly the grains with a larger diameter are stimulated to vibrate, while all other grain sizes react only slightly due to the relatively low acceleration. Since larger grains are always surrounded by smaller grains, the acceleration of the large grains is dampened.
Stehr high-frequency plate compactors operate at a frequency of 70 Hz, to which the smaller-diameter grains react in resonance. The effective acceleration of the larger grains is also significantly amplified by the improved vibration transfer. With the help of the additional surface pressure exerted by the carrier machine on the plate compactor, the material settles much more densely.
This results in a much more homogeneous surface (E-module). Measurements have shown that fill heights of one meter can be compacted effortlessly throughout their entire depth.
